How does technology “show up” in film, literature, and art that relates to the future? How do various works with which we’ve engaged in class portray technological change? Do you think these works reinforce or challenge the idea that technological progress is a good thing for humanity? How, specifically, might you apply the insights you’ve gained from engaging with these works to your own life, attitudes, and relationship with present and future technologies? Make specific reference to at least three works we have discussed (Nineteen Eighty-Four, Brave New World, and That Hideous Strength) during Unit 2, and feel free to refer to other works you have read / watched / seen outside of class as well.
