QUESTION: Civil Rights and heritage. In some way, it is possible to see both “Everyday Use” and Kindred as attempts to address the cultural upheaval of the civil rights movement and the new pride in Black heritage that accompanied it. Using specific examples from the reading, and in particular a discussion of the key conflicts and resolutions, explain what each reading has to say about the difficult relationship between those in the Black community, this new cultural pride, and the varied histories of the community.
