Instructions (Please read carefully)
You should be able to provide a complete response in 1.5 to 2 pages for each essay. Submissions should NOT be more than 6 total pages.
Clearly identify the number and title of the question you are answering (for example, 1. Studying.) and then type your response. Keep the essays in the same order and submit only one document. If you answer questions 1 and 2 keep them in that order.
If there are multiple parts to a question, be sure to answer all of the parts. In order to receive full credit, you must include relevant concepts and reference to specific research studies from the chapters covered in this unit. Vocabulary terms should be marked in bold font.
All answers must be in your own words. Do not copy or quote definitions from the textbook, internet, or lectures but do incorporate vocabulary terms, as appropriate.
If you are asked to provide examples of concepts, the examples should be your own. Do not use the same examples from the lectures or textbook or examples found on the internet.
Use the materials provided in this course (e.g., class lectures and discussions, the textbook, and Mindtap) to help you answer these questions. Information you find on other websites or other sources may or may not be accurate and may focus on different aspects of these topics than I do in this class. I am assessing your knowledge of the material I have presented you with in this class.
1- Studying. In this unit, we learned about how to encode information for long-term retention. Identify at least four different methods/approaches from Chapter 7 that you can apply to how you study.
Explain the encoding method in your own words.
Describe the research studies that demonstrate why that method is helpful for long-term retention.
Explain how you can apply that method to how you study.
In order to receive full credit, you must include relevant concepts (marked in bold font) and references to specific research studies from the chapters covered in this unit. When referencing research studies you should describe the methods and results of those studies. When discussing the procedures, it is helpful to include a description of what a trial in the experiment was like for the participants.
2- Eyewitness Testimony. An important application of memory research has been in understanding the nature of eyewitness testimony.
Citing the research and concepts from the text and lectures, explain why people make memory errors and how this applies to eyewitness testimony.
Include at least three different reasons for errors with research supporting each one.
