In describing and responding critically to your source material, you must be sure to avoid unintentional plagiarism
Paragraph Two
• State the author’s thesis idea or her main argument from her article.
• Demonstrate the specific ways that the author uses ethos, pathos, and logos in order to try and persuade her audience.
Identify 2 different types of ethos, 2 different types of pathos, and 2 different types of logos.
o When you identify the specific type of each appeal be sure to provide the example from the text as well as an explanation of how that type and example works to persuade the audience.
o A common issue in this essay is that students will provide two examples of the same type: for example, a student may provide two different facts for logos or two different source references for ethos – in this case while the student has provided two examples of both ethos and logos, the examples are all of the same type which does not allow that student to demonstrate mastery of the concept.
